The Institute for Jewish History in Austria was founded in 1988 and is housed in the former synagogue in St. Pölten. Since 2011, it has been attached to the Institute of Austrian Historical Research at the University of Vienna. It is dedicated to the comprehensive research of the history and culture of Jews in Austria from the Middle Ages to the present day. Our work includes scholarly research, publications and public lectures, university teaching, as well as citizen science and school projects. Through exhibitions and public events, the orphaned former synagogue has found a new and meaningful use as a memorial site.
