The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Research on the Consequences of War (BIK), founded by Prof. Stefan Karner in 1992, is dedicated to conducting and promoting interdisciplinary research on the impact and consequences of wars and conflicts in the broadest sense.
This includes political, economic, social, humanitarian, and cultural consequences.
Aside from research and publishing activities, the institute conducts numerous scholarly events, designs large exhibitions, and in the framework of public service offers next-of-kin the opportunity to conduct research on prisoners of war, missing persons, and forced laborers of World War II.
