The Institute of Rural History (IGLR), founded in St. Pölten in 2012, is an independent research institute dedicated to work and life in rural settings in various eras and locales. The IGLR conducts research on the history of rural environments, economy, politics, society, and culture in Austria, Europe, and the world. In its research activity, the IGLR places a central emphasis on the relationship of humans to one another as well as to their natural and social environment. The IGLR promotes a boundary-crossing scholarly discourse and disseminates its findings among a broad public audience.
